Parent Resources

The California Education Code allows parents to opt their children out of all portions of the California Healthy Youth Act instruction that conflict with families' religious or moral beliefs.

The California Education Code § 51240 allows a child to be excused from "any part of a school's instruction in health" that conflicts with the "religious training and beliefs" or "personal moral convictions" of the parent.

This means that parents can opt out of both Sex Ed and instruction about gender identity and sexual orientation with a prior written request (i.e opt out form).

The information below is intended to be a resource for parents.
